TROX AITCS WINS IET INNOVATION IN ENGINEERING AWARD

11/10/2006

Big names from across a number of sectors joined forces to celebrate Excellence in Innovation at the Institution of Engineering & Technology’s London HQ in Savoy Place, London on 11th October 2006.

TROX AITCS won the Built Environment award for its patented pioneering carbon dioxide blade server cooling system, in a joint application with building services consultant hurleypalmerflatt,. This ground-breaking, green technology captured the judges imagination by harnessing liquid CO2 to cool data centres. Dr. Alf Roberts, CEO of the IET, said: “These awards recognise the vital role that innovation in engineering plays in the global economy. On behalf of the IET I would like to congratulate all winners who have displayed outstanding innovation in their respective categories.”

Beating off stiff competition, TROX AITCS was in good company as a total of 17 awards were presented to household names such as Jaguar Cars Ltd and BT Group CTO.

Guy Hutchins, sales and marketing director of TROX AITCS, was delighted with the achievement, commenting: “We are extremely proud to have won the IET award as it reflects how the appeal for the system has stepped beyond industry boundaries, and reinforces the importance of developing a cooling solution that can provide all business-critical data centres with their cooling needs, not just now but well into the future.”

The IET Innovation in Engineering Awards are supported by the Department of Trade & Industry and Lord Sainsbury of Turville, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Science and Innovation at the DTI attended the event.

THE AWARD – Judges' Comments

This product has the potential to have a huge impact on the design and layout of data and communication centres. Heat management in these environments is critical for the continued operation of the equipment, and indeed the business itself since the financial implications of equipment failure can be crippling. This is an excellent commercial innovation, green in both energy efficiency and space saving. It looks to be a solution to an IT nightmare.
