TROX AITCS WIN INNOVATION OF THE YEAR AWARD

27/06/2006

The Building Services Awards - the main event in the industries calendar - took place at the Grosvenor House on London's Park Lane on Monday 26th June 2006.

In a combined entry with hurleypalmerflatt, TROX AITCS beat off stiff competition from 6 other finalists for its CO2 Mission Critical Cooling System.

Guy Hutchins, TROX AITCS Sales & Marketing Director said “The BSJ is one of the industry's premier journals and it is a tremendous achievement to win this award, which is a first for TROX. I would like to express my thanks to everyone involved who helped make this possible”.

THE AWARDS – Judges Observations Innovation of the Year

A joint submission from hurleypalmerflatt and TROX was singled out for praise by the judges in this category. The two firms collaborated in the design and deployment of a cooling system to meet the increasing demands of data centres for power, resilience and cooling capacity.

The solution combines hurleypalmerflatt's experience in data centre design with the TROX CO2 Olrac system. This heat absorption device is fitted to the rear of equipments cabinets. The solution is environmentally neutral and can handle heat loads of 20-30 kW per cabinet; it is capable of saving up to 30% on electrical costs and is scalable so can suit most cabinets. The 30 kW capacity exceeds water-cooled solutions by around 50%, saving cabinet and floor area.

Already used at Imperial College, London, the judges were particularly impressed by the “innovative use of old technologies, used for the first time in a mission critical environment” and the potential for massive replication.
